FINDING FOSSIL METEORITES:

To find fossil meteorites in coal, all you need to do is collect everything caught on your tramp iron magnets over a period of several months. Set up bins near the magnets at your mine or plant for this purpose. Throw away any metal objects which are obviously man-made. Examine any unknown or rock-like particles. Send them to us for analysis.

Fossil meteorites may come in any size and their surface appearances will vary widely. They may be coated with a surface of rust or a rind of pyrite. They may not be too strongly magnetic. Fossil meteorites may be heavily corroded, have holes or pock-marks in their surfaces, or they may look like ordinary rocks. They may not look like a "meteorite" at all!

Geologists at Pennsylvania State University are conducting a scientific study of fossil meteorites.
