APB – Missing Ivory Coast Tektite
Dear Collectors,
I have never had to do something like this before, and
it pains me to have to start now.
I need your help. I am missing a complete round
17.18gram Ivory Coast tektite. I am not going to explain the
circumstances of how this came about right now (nor will I even in
private – so please don’t ask). I will say that by even asking for this
help, I have severely damaged a relationship with someone I really like
and respect, regardless of what turns up from this search. I have what,
to me, appears to be pretty strong evidence of the events of what
happened in my specimen’s disappearance, but no actual proof yet.
Without such proof, the benefit of the doubt must remain in favor of the
other people. The results of this search may strongly help to prove my
worst fears are correct, nothing at all, or even that I am completely
wrong. If that turns out to indeed be the case, then this will turn out
to be the biggest mistake I have ever made in my career (but if it turns
out correct, it could be theirs). I am human; I do make mistakes –
plenty of them, but rarely of this magnitude. What looks like strong
evidence to me may appear as nothing to others, so I may have gotten
worked up into a frenzy over nothing but my own idiocy. Then I will owe
some people an apology, a very BIG one. You will see that everywhere
available to me as well if that does turn out to be the case. That,
sadly, won’t fix the relationships I have damaged by doing this, but I
would want to be sure that, if I am wrong, that there are no misguided
rumors left floating around out there.
What I am asking all of you for is any info on any
large (17g or so) Ivory Coast tektites you have seen, heard of, or
purchased since April of this year. Please do not fear any problems from
giving me any info if you have any. Right now, I am just trying to see
if the thing has turned up out there anywhere and who was offering it if
it did. If it turns out that one of you did end up with the piece I am
missing, do not fear that you will loose it by telling me. I have no
intentions of trying to get it back. You likely will have purchased it
in good faith from someone (quite possibly a known dealer even) that in
the normal coarse of business would have such items (the legal
description of what constitutes no possible wrong doing on the part of
the buyer – regardless of the situation of the item being sold). I would
only ask for the info (who purchased from, when and for how much) for my
records. In the unlikely event of any legal action involving this
specimen this information would simply be used to demonstrate the value
of the loss.
I thank any body in advance than can be of any help on
this.

Some meteorites we have bought to Mr. Notkin
have been stolen at the beggining of July, at our country, Venezuela, by
custom agents ( don´t know if civilian or military ). We were notified
of its arrival, have to pay extra taxes and later, the custom agency
just wrote to us to apologyze for what have happened to our property and
that our money will be refounded. At our request of what have happened,
we have not recieved any answer . It seems the items were robbed by
inside custom agents.
We will upload the pictures of the items, two 500 grams lots of NWA unc
meteorites , and one nice Campo del Cielo iron....
Please, if in case anyone see the items on Ebay or are offered them for
a deal, you now know the are stolen meteorites.
Any information, please write to:

A number of lunar meteorites have
disappeared under suspicious circumstances.
The pieces included:
DaG 400 A VERY THIN 4 gram
rectangular piece
DaG 400 A LARGE 25 gram (approx)
piece
NWA 032 15 gram (?approx) piece
which is a center slice
DaG 262 1 gram piece (may be still
in a membrane box)
There are some other lunars as well
that I am trying to retrieve information about.
I am not sure how these pieces may
be offered but it is their source and nature (size, appearance,
etc) that will be the tipoff as to whether they are the stolen
stones.

Lost/Stolen Meteorite Shipment From Munich Show
I need to report
that a shipment from the Munich show has been lost/stolen.
Jim Strope and I shipped via UPS Supply Chain Solutions a large
Muonionalusta weighing 174 kilograms and a large Gibeon, highly
sculptured, weighing 36 kilograms. It also contained some kilos of
chondrites. The shipment has been lost for a month. It seems to have
made it to Los Angeles via United Airlines, and simply disappeared after
that. We are told that it is likely simply buried in the United Airlines
bonded cargo warehouse and may be found soon, but on the off chance that
this shipment was stolen, we must make public the weights of the
meteorites. If anyone has been offered any meteorites of these weights,
please notify myself or Jim Strope as I will be in Japan until Dec 19th.
It seems that shipments of this type have been stolen before. Let this
be a warning to anyone shipping material like this. It CAN BE
LOST/STOLEN even when weighing over 500 pounds!
INSURE YOUR SHIPMENTS.

Announcement of the loss of a piece of the Imilac
meteorite, weighing approximately 10 kilograms
During the second semester of 2000
the management of the Laboratories and Museum of the Servicio Nacional
de Geología de Chile (SERNAGEOMIN) contracted the services of Mr.
Enrique Aliste (a Chilean dealer of minerals and cuarz crystals) to cut two
(2) slabs of the Imilac meteorite. One of these slabs was to be polished and
placed on display and the other was to be used to exchange for other meteorite
specimens. Mr. Enrique Aliste returned only one slab and a piece from the end
of the meteorite. The original meteorite had a total weight of 14.7 kilograms.
A written request for the return of the missing pieces of the Imilac meteorite
was sent to Mr. Aliste, but no reply has been received. It has not been
possible to locate Mr. Aliste, despite that fact that legal action is being
taken by our institution. We have unconfirmed evidence that Mr. Aliste sold
part of the meteorite abroad. Given this information, the
meteorite must be considered as stolen from our institution. We are sending
this notice to alert any possible purchaser of this meteorite that it should
be definitely considered as stolen. We ask that any information pertaining to
this meteorite be sent to Carlos Roeschman, Chief of Laboratories and Museum
of the Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería de Chile, e-mail: croeschm@sernageomin.cl

The Ramsdorf main mass of about 4 kg (several fragments) was stolen together
with (Homestead, Macibini, Mincy, Mocs, etc.)
Dear Meteorite Friends!
The Ramsdorf main mass of about 4 kg (several fragments) was stolen together with other meteorites (Homestead, Macibini, Mincy, Mocs, etc.) from the finder in Borken on Feb. 5th, 2001. It probably was an ordered thievery (only meteorites and jewelry).
Please let me know, if any Ramsdorf, Macibini or Mincy will be offered to you or if you hear anything of the appearance of these meteorites!
Please distribute this information within the "meteoritical community" by your
web-sites.
Hallo Meteoritenfreunde!
