OK, indulge me. They say necessity is the mother of
invention. As you may have seen, I like to take
micrographs of highly polished meteorite slices/hand
samples. I like this better than thin section
examination because more often I have a cool looking
meteorite and no thin. This time I had a great
Martian thin section on loan from Jim Strope but
what do you know? No hand sample. Darn, I'll have
to order one!
I tried out my thick sample techniques on this thin
section by bonding a silvered strip of mylar to the
back. The results are interesting but please don't
judge this technique on these images. The results
on cheaper, thicker thin sections was astonishing.
Maybe I need to order some not so thin, thin
sections.
Once again, the thin section was a generous loan
from Jim Strope.
