The School
 
There were not just the men working in the silica mine living at the crater. There were also their families. There was a time when it was thought that the children needed a school. A short distance around the rim from the silica mine are these ruins. The schoolhouse never got very far in its construction. The silica mining operation did not last for very long. Like most of the buildings in the region built in those days it was being made from the native Moenkopi sandstone and has that distinctive deep reddish brown color.
