By far the largest of the tektite strewnfields is that of Indochina and Australia. Spanning an area from the mid Indian Ocean to out into the Pacific Ocean, reaching deep into China and south lower than Darwin Island. The tektites within this area vary greatly in form and type but are generally very dark in color. Noted for splash form shapes, this strewnfield has produced some of the most interesting of the tektites recovered. The Australian portion of the field contains the aerodynamically shaped button tektites which are still a type which fascinate scientist.
